IS is the way to go

okay so granted i just got this lens today and have limited use with it but i also own a canon 70-200 L series lens WITHOUT stabilization and the difference to me was immediately apparent. i am not one to carry around a tripod which is what you need with my other lens in order to get a clear shot all of the time. yes this lens does feel much cheaper and it was! but the point and shoot shots came out much clearer. i did not notice any color differences between the two lens as mentioned in a previous review. and i also gained mm on both ends which fits nicely with the kit lens. i am so satisfied that after one day i have already placed my other lens for sale on ebay. any takers!

Best lens for the money

This is an excellent lens for under $500. It is designed to be a good all purpose tele zoom lens for non-pros. I think it fits the bill nicely. The lens is very sharp at all focal lengths and really doesn’t have any bad spots like most cheap lenses. Aperture is a bit on the slow side, but normal for a lens in its class. The Image Stabilization really works well. You won’t want a telephoto lens without it once you’ve had it. Build quality is about normal for the price. It is mostly plastic, but that keeps down on the weight. Macro performance is pretty good, too. It is a 1/3 magnification, which is a bit better than average without being an advertised macro lens. You can certainly fill the frame with a flower bud or a leaf, if that is what you are after. I give it 5 stars, not because it is the best lens in the world, but because it is the best lens for the price and the intended photographers. It pairs perfectly with the 18-55 IS and then you get a seamless range of 18-250 (28-400 equiv), all Image stabilized. The next step up is at least twice the money. Nothing else in the price range can compare with the features, sharpness and focal range in my opinion.

Great for astrophotography

I love this camera. With the Live View, all I do is hook it up to my laptop, and find a bright star, and magnify the view on the laptop and I can focus in seconds. With the Xti and no Live View, it was a long, painful process that never really focused right. Once focused, I can take several long exposure pictures with no problem. Much less noise at higher ISO’s than the Xti. I was able to get great pictures, first night out.

Great Camera!

After countless hours of research and comparisons, I finally decided to purchase the Canon Xsi. I’ve only had it a month, but in that time I’ve taken over 3000 photos and am very pleased with the results. Against the Canon S5 IS point and shoot that I had previously, this camera wins hands down. I agree that the kit lens isn’t the best lens in the universe, but it is a great starter lens. Also sometimes in low light situations the camera’s AF does focus on something other than the subject, but using manual focus fixes the problem. I just recently purchased a converter and attached a spotting scope to the camera, making the scope into a 1000-4000mm lens. The camera handled it beautifully and with the bulb function and a tripod and remote switch, I have gotten some excellent moon photos. Overall this is a great camera for those considering a first Dslr, and it is quite a step up in photo quality from even the high-zoom point and shoots.

Great camera with awesome features.

This camera is awesome and easy to use. It takes great pictures if you learn to use the correct settings for the picture you are taking. I have been using a digital camera for years and this is by far the best one that I have found yet. It has the best features. Some people have it rated low but I would guess they didn’t learn to use it and read the owners manual. The manual is included for a reason. I have had it for about a year now and have enjoyed it and have had no problems.

Excellent superzoom digital camera

This camera is an excellent digital superzoom camera. I am amazed by the quality of the photos; they have great color and are visually stunning. The video clips are also of good quality. This camera is easy to use, and is lightweight, making it easy to carry. I have owned and used a number of Canon digital cameras,including the Rebel XT and the Rebel XSi. Based on my experience with the Canon dSLR’s, I initially purchased a Canon SX20 IS digital superzoom camera. However, I was not impressed with the photo quality; the images seemed to be a bit soft and did not have the quality that I have experienced with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35. I am recommending the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 to all friends and family.

Wonderful Camera!

This is a great camera both for photos, and video. I bought it to take pictures since it takes real filters ([...]) unlike the more-or-less equivalent Canon. But what really blew me away was the picture and sound quality of the video. All this for under four hundred bucks. So the manual’s on CD. It doesn’t cost much to print it out at 4 pages per sheet.

Significant improvement over zi6

Since I already own a Kodak zi6, I will restrict my review to comparison between Kodak zi8 and zi6. Overall, I feel that zi8 is a significant improvement over the previous model. The video quality is definitely better than zi6 in all conditions, whether outside in bright sunlight or indoors in low light. The firmware is superior giving a more user friendly interface and buttons layout is much nicer. Unlike zi6 where setting menus was hidden, this time you get direct access to settings including controlling the screen brightness, altering mic sensitivity, turning image stabilization on/off and enabling/disabling face recognition.

Zi8

I bought this video camera to take to Paris, France with me. I did thorough research on all small video cameras. I wanted one that was easy to use, had image stabilization, portable, and compatible with a Mac. I looked at Sanyo, Canon, Panasonic, and Kodak. At the last minute I found an article in MacWorld about Kodak’s Zi8. I generally do not like to buy electronics when they first are released on the market; too many kinks to work out. However, time was of the essence in my case, so I purchased the Kodak Zi8. I have never owened a video camera; however, I have had a lot of fun playing with it. It is very easy to use. The controls and menus are straight-forward. I was able to download the videos to YouTube as well as my Mac. iMovie took it right in and was able to play the video back. One of the other reviews talked about a problem with their microphone, but so far I have not experienced the same. So far I love my new toy and can’t wait to take it to Paris.

Amazazing!

I bought the D80 a couple months ago and was having major noise issues. My Nikon D50 (a lesser model) took better quality photos. After exchanging the D80 several times and even sending it in for service, the issue still remained. I was so fortunate that the D90 was released this week….I have already exchanged the D80 for the D90. After using it for just one day, I am amazed at the quality. I took photos at ISO 3200, and they are nearly the same quality as the D50 at ISO 400. Nikon has finally solved their noise issues!!

The perfect camera?

Just wow. This is my second Nikon DSLR and a big step up from my fine D-70s. The D-90 is about the same size and weight which is important if you’re holding this camera throughout a busy day. The focus is fast and accurate in most cases. The d-lighting is a nice feature for compressing highly dynamic lighting. Shooting 4.5 frames per second is wonderful. The rear screen is sharp and bright. The ability to shoot 720P video is nice but is limited by a lack of automatic focus. The resulting video is very sharp as the DSLR’s lens are bigger than anything short of a professional video camera. Nice for an occasional video but not a full replacement.
