The Magellan 4700 is a great unit. Having been a Magellan GPS user for several years, when I went looking for a new unit to find one with Bluetooth phone capabilities, I looked to Magellan. The 4700 model looked idea and in most respects it is. All of the normal GPS functions work fabulously. However, I found that the bluetooth support, specifically the ability for the person you are talking to over the bluetooth connection to be able to hear you clearly, is almost unusable. I tried several different attachment locations and methods, including testing it by holding the 4700 in my hand while talking and what comes across to the person on the other end of the phone connection are all of the car and road noises, which drown out the voice coming through. So, while I will be keeping the 4700 for GPS duties, I have had to shift my bluetooth connection to a standalone bluetooth handsfree unit (from Jabra) that works clear as a bell. The GPS does everything I expected and is easy to use. I installed the dashboard mount, but it won’t stay on. I didn’t know that you had to let it “cure” 24-hours before attaching the cradle until I went on line for more details-so maybe that’s the problem. I got it to stick, but less than a week later it came off and won’t re-attach. Not what I expected when I paid this much for a GPS! I’m getting the friction mount.
