Well the cat is out of the bag as one disappointed reviewer stated.

The main premise of this book is how to use an online based service called Calibre…so maybe the name of the book should be “Calibre for Dummies” or “Calibre Cliff Notes”. Either way, I am very computer savvy but just got my first eReader, a Kindle 3 and I absolutely love it.

I subscribed to the Huffington Post through Amazon only to learn after reading this short guide that I could be getting free, and I am now along with 32 other Newspapers, Magazines, Blogs and News Services.

Hey this book is as advertised FREE NEWS all you can probably handle…I have reviewed a few items on Amazon (not a hobby but something I do from time to time) and I had never heard of Steven Lewis before I bought this ebook. The truth is unless I already knew about the service AND how to SET IT UP (an important detail that people like me would probably spend more time trying to figure-out when I could save time reading this book) I would have nothing bad to say about this book I would simply go to “Manage My Kindle” in my Amazon account and request a refund and have the ebook removed from my device. This is something you can do with any Kindle content. No need to bash something just because it is not new to you or helpful, etc… I guess if I already knew what was in the book though I would not have bothered to buy it then complain about it either.

    Cut to the chase:

I read MOST of the book. I sent Steven an email, he wrote me back. We corresponded some and he is still available to me if I have any feedback or questions, nice guy. He is not profiting further from our emails and is genuinely accessible.

As far as the content? I have been shunned by a few in my ‘other reviews’ for my political views being ‘left leaning’ so I will give some samples that will appease those on the RIGHT, LEFT, MIDDLE as well as some examples that are not politically slanted.

With the current UPDATE to the service there are 306 title that are US BASED in English. Plus there are other titles that are not US BASED but in English like BBC NEWS, BBC Sports (both UK) just to name a couple of the bigger ones. Several countries offer daily newspapers such as Ireland, New Zealand, UK, India, Isreal to name a few. There is also some foreign language content in MANY DIFFERENT LANGUAGES.

So I will not list all 306 US TITLES but here are some of the titles currently offered:

    The Onion
    The Nation
    Time
    Newsweek
    US News and World Report
    The Wall Street Journal
The New York Times (and the NY Time Book Review)
    ESPN
    Popular Science
    The Washington Post
    The Houston Chronicle
    The LA Times
    The Seattle Times
    Wired
    TMZ
Rolling Stone (Free Content) – The full version is there but does not read on my Kindle
    MSNBC News Service
    Mother Jones
    Columbia Journalism Review
    Mac World
    Mac Video
    PC Magazine
    PC World
    Linux Magazine
    Christian Science Monitor
    Fox News
    CNN
    CNET

You have tech news, profession specific journals I have not even touch on, Business, Financial, News, Blogs and a lot more.

I am not sure if I am happier with 33 subs to periodicals, not as if I have time to read them all, but I am better informed and it cost me .99 cents!

I would recommend this to any eReader rather just for the background although it is for Kindle I am sure iPad users as well as other eReaders could benefit from it.

    Thanks Steven!

I’ve recently invested in a MacBook, a Cannon SLR camera and a Kindle. I’ve found Amazon a great source of “how to” books that have helped me get started. I found this book on Amazon and I purchased it as I had no idea that I could get free newspapers and magazines on my Kindle.

Despite being a new Mac user I was able to follow the step by step instructions to get set up & I now happily read the newspapers and magazines of my choice on my Kindle on the bus to work every day. Thanks for getting me started.
