Third Generation iPad (iPad3) is
Depth: 0.37 inch (9.4 mm)
Weight: 1.44 pounds (652 g)

The iPad2 is

Depth: 0.34 inch (8.8 mm)
Weight: 1.33 pounds (601 g)

.11 of an ounce heavier in weight and .03 of an inch in thickness are microtads. I didn’t even notice it!

The performance is much better than that of my iPad 2, when you look at the new iPad then the iPad 2 next to it, the high quality of the new display it is very apparent. That on the iPad 2 looks more pixelated and washed out next to it. It has more memory than the iPad 2 did, and I’m very pleased with the updated camera, the dictation feature, more memory and mine does not get hot.
If you are hot happy they let you return it for 30 days no questions asked. The Wi-fi connection is great, I did not want to be tempted by the LTE connection I do not need more bills with a carrier for data, my smartphone is enough for me there. I highly recommend the new iPad. The display alone and the 4 quad core graphics capabilities from the new larger battery, camera and dictation features are well worth the upgrade. If you only browse the web or read email etc you’re probably better suited to the iPad 2 or first generation iPad. I also picked the 64 gb this time being it’s only $100 to double the size of the 32gb so I would not regret it later. Why does Amazon and the sellers have the price 50 to 100 dollars and higher for the cost of the iPad than it actually is? You might want to try Apple online or an Apple store for the actual price. Canon EOS 5D Mark III Review

The New Canon 5D Mk III he New Canon 5D Mk III I have a Canon 5D Mk II and it’s been a real work horse. I love the Canon glass and the photos that the 5D Mk II produces. So when the 5DMk III was announced, I ordered it – even at the steep price of $3,500.00 USD. I like the way Canon delivers their products soon after the announcement – wish Nikon did the same, but I digress. I’ve been using it now for a couple of weeks. There are several things I like about the newest 5D Gen:

1. The Auto Focus is much faster in actual use. Setting it up is another matter.

2. The locking mode switch is nice – Canon charged me $100.00 to mod my 5DMk II for this feature.

3. There is in- camera correction of chromatic aberration (CA) and vignetting of select lenses . Why Canon didn’t install this in the camera out of the box is questionable. You have to load software and manually select the lenses from a list and install them into the camera YOURSELF. While not a problem for most people, with a price tag of $3,500.00 USD, why not spare us that drill? Just saying. There are some older lenses missing from the list too (oh well.)

4. The on-off switch is now on top of the camera instead of at the bottom – this is a big plus for me at least. In my clumsiness I often inadvertently switched the 5DMk II off when pulling it out of the bag.

5. I like the location of the Depth-of-Field (DOF) preview button – now I only need one hand to preview and shoot (thanks Canon!)

6. I haven’t done any scientific testing of either camera, but I do see a bit of improvement in the Image Quality in the 5D Mk III, and the low-light images are far better – this is probably due to the re-working of the sensor.

7. This is totally subjective: It just feels better in my hands.

This all adds up to an incrementally better camera than the 5D Mk II. But it’s not the “game-changer” that the original 5D was. The 5 D Mk III is not a “revolutionary” model. It’s a lovely upgrade from the 5D Mk II, but there’s really no compelling reason to ditch your 5D Mk II and switch to the 5 D Mk III. I have the feeling that the Nikon D800 has stolen the thunder of the 5D Mk III, and will cause many people to jump ship – simply because the D800 IS a major game changer and it IS REVOLUTIONARY, while the 5D Mk III just isn’t. By the way, I’ve already ordered my D800 (sorry Canon.)

I have one major complaint with my 5DMk III and that is that I cannot save the Custom 1, 2, 3 features I want. This can probably be fixed in a subsequent firmware update, but it’s been a royal pain for me in the meantime. I was able to save one Custom setting, and I have not been able to add C2 and C3. To give this Samsung 60ES8000 some context I’ve now had the 60″ ES8000 for 5 days and have sampled HD cable TV, Blue Ray, and Apple TV streaming HD.

Aesthetically the Samsung 60ES8000 TV looks fantastic. I think somewhere Samsung was inspired by Apple architecture and a less-is-more approach to style. Deciding to wall-mount the TV I was slightly disappointed to not be able to use the stand that come with it as it is really sharp looking. The lack of edge and thin profile invokes some iPad sensibilities when it comes to appearance. If I were to nit-pick I’d say that the silver edge on the TV would look better with a more brushed finish than shiny, but that is really a function of style and preference. I also think the “samsung” power indicator at the bottom is a bit too bright in a dark room setting. These are minor items.

I’ve had no issues with image quality so far. If there are problems with with screen quality on this Samsung 60ES8000 model I’ve not witnessed it, so time will tell if there were early lemons that others got stuck with. To my eye the TV came calibrated too bright and sharp, so i’ve gone in and adjusted down a number of the settings. I don’t know if that is their standard factory default settings, but it was easy to adjust so I’d not consider it a real flaw.

The on-screen user interface works pretty well and seems fairly easy to navigate. I’m not sure how valuable some of the Apps are at this point, but I like the concept and assume that function will expand in time. The TV setup was reasonable, as was the network connections (I was connecting to an Airport Express – no problems).

Here’s why I’m only giving this 4 stars, and what prevents this Samsung 60ES8000 from being a Grand Slam in my opinion…..the physical user interface with the two remotes, along with Hand and Voice gestures are a bit clumsy and needing refinement. My first reaction to seeing two remote controls was “Why?”. Why not make one REALLY GOOD remote, instead of two in which neither are perfect. The basic remote is not universal, so if you’re hooking up to a Set-Top Box or other accessories it’s almost useless. The touch pad universal remote was a great concept that was poorly executed. The touch sensors are skittish and the 7-8 buttons on it really have no intuitive qualities. At this point I’m using the universal remote supplied to me by my cable service provider.

In summary the two things that were really important to me; how the TV looks, and the screen quality, have both been fantastic. My recommendation to Samsung is to really give this user interface some additional thought. If nothing else make a fantastic App that allows us to use tablets for navigation. Click here to read more

HP g6-1d60us Review

Purchased as a gift for parents. We had a couple of weeks to work with it, install AV, updates, set up favorites, etc., before repackaging and wrapping. For the price, it seemed like a very good deal.

Functionally, as far as the way the computer performance, it is great for what we (they) needed it to do. You couldn’t really expect more considering. It does everything the average user would want, average being someone watching videos and looking at pictures, facebook, web surfing, excel, word – what “most” people do these days. As far as gaming, that was not tested. Display was bright, good color, and crisp. Everything operationally was fine, as good as another computer we own that cost twice the price.

Overall, it had a good feel, balanced well on your “lap”, pretty solid, and was not too heavy. The “mouse pad” area on the keyboard was the only real negative with this particular computer. The “pad” area was not smooth, but rigid, but not unacceptable. The “buttons” on the pad, the left/right “clickers” were a little stiff, though not bad enough to justify a return. You had to use a little more pressure than any other I can remember. This may only be the case with this particular one, and not an indication of all the laptops in this series.

The only other fault was the plastic around the keyboard area – not the keys themselves, which were fine, just the surface surrounding the keyboard area. It had the look and feel of a softer plastic toy – but it did seem solid enough to hold up. It was flexible with a little pressure. Most I recall are more solid – a harder type plastic.

Finally, for the price and availability, this was the model we chose, and are pretty happy with it. If you will use a separate mouse, then no worries with the built in mouse pad. If you can afford it, consider a higher priced model, but in the price range, this performs well. 4 Stars – have take off 1 for the mouse pad and softer plastic.
