This Toshiba 55UX600U tv has a great picture and lots of good features. Picture has many user settings for fine-tuning and calibrating (expert modes). Apps like vudu, etc are fast and helpful. Thin profile and lightweight are nice attractions.
Couple of my concerns before viewing were the 120hz and the glossy screen (glare). I’ve watched football, baseball, basketball and haven’t noticed any blurring at all. The screen does have some reflection but once the set is on you cannot see Toshiba 55UX600U at all. Toshiba 55UX600U Picture is very bright and dynamic. Incredible blacks for an edge-lit. Great TV for the price I bought this LG 42LD450 tv because LG 42LD450 was cheaper than the LG 37″ tv and because of the 2 year financing on it. I am amazed by how nice this lcd looks and performs. We have a 46″ Toshiba lcd that is about a year old, and this one blows it away….faster response times on everything from changing channels to anything. Has a good picture even on basic cable. Samsung PN50C8000 Reviews

I bought this exact model the Cheap PN50C8000. One might get the impression that it is silver. I’d call it a dark grey brushed metal look. Which is fine IMO.

One thing that is not often publicized for some reason is the fact that plasma’s are not even close to as bright as newer LCD models. This worried me a little.
But when I got it; it took some tweaking but I was able to get exactly the color/brightness I wanted for normal viewing and 3d viewing. All 3d glasses are tinted so it’s good to have a very bright setting for when you view 3d.

Electronics review websites always talk about how plasmas can do extreme blacks. I set it to where the blacks are on the darkest setting. Honestly I was surprised that the blacks are not all that dark (note this is my first plasma I’m not comparing it with other plasmas). The 8000 series LED LCD Samsungs seem about the same when it comes to blacks, of course I have not seen both inside my living room environment so I can’t make a perfect comparison. I don’t actually care; either tv would be dark enough for me. I just thought I’d point this fact out.

The primary reason I bought a plasma over a 8000 series LCD has nothing to do with price or darkness levels, it was for superior 3d viewing. 1.) Less eye strain. I have read on more than one electronics site and electronics magazines that the 600hz viewing of plasmas (and the way the image is drawn on the screen) has been proven to provide less eye strain for 3d viewing. 2.) Viewing angle is always better for plasma over LCD. (This is important for 3d because loss of lighting and clarity is a big deal when you are already limited by the glasses.) 3.) Clearly there is a issue with mixing LCD tech with 3d since if you tilt your head the image splits apart. (This DOES NOT happen with the plasma) and 4. All the reviews I’ve read say plasma’s have tested better for 3d viewing.

My complaints are minimal but I think they justify giving 4 stars instead of 5. One is that the TV decides to turn off 3d mode on it’s own if you for example exit a Playstation 3 game or change to another input. I understand their reason for doing this but I prefer to just have manual control of it on my own. Also I couldn’t get the red and white audio out ports to work, even when I selected to switch to alternate sound output. I suspect it was just something I was doing wrong but it shouldn’t be something that requires much effort. I gave up on that because I also had the choice of optical or using the headphones port for my audio so it wasn’t a big deal. Another minor complaint I have is the stand is particularly heavy. Obviously it’s good to have a sturdy stand but they could have made it strong and much lighter weight and I don’t think it would have made for any greater risk of the TV tipping over or something..

On a side note; when manufactures say that you should sit closer for optimal 3d viewing than normal viewing they mean it. I’m glad I didn’t get any smaller than 50 inches.
For optimal 3d immersion I found I like sitting just 5 feet from the screen. For normal viewing I sit at about 8-10 feet from the screen.

Samsung UN55C6500 Reviews

I had a 53″ Pioneer Rear Projection for 6 years now and decided to upgrade to something that was slimmer and nicer.

Simply put, the picture on this set is awesome! I have had it more than a month and very pleased with it. I bought it with the assumption that I would try it and if I didn’t like it just return it (since it is so expensive) and get something cheaper. I did a lot of research from seeing it multiple times and Best Buy and PC Richard and Sons to following an Audio Video Forum from actual owners regarding this TV.

Strangely enough there is a panel lottery as to what TV screen you will get. I received a SK03 panel and from what I read and know, the S panels have better off angle viewing than the C panels but more of a tendency to show clouding and spotlighting. I don’t notice any real off angle viewing since I am watching it from the front and I am lucky to say that there are no spotlighting or clouding issues (believe me I looked hard!). A lot of the clouding or spotlighting can be significantly reduced with proper settings but there are some panels that just show it more than others. I have tested it in many dark movie scenes with bright foregrounds as well as letter box movies (can be found easier by watching bright scenes with dark edges. Unfortunately this is a problem with most LED Edge lit panels and the higher-end Samsung LED TVs have the ability to dim this.

I don’t play games so I can’t comment on that but a friend brought over his PS3 to see how it looked playing some of his faster paced games (I read some people had issues with speed and shadow images) and he absolutely loved it. We didn’t encounter any issues with lag as others had. He was so please that he is planning to buy the same set to replace his Sony.

If you push the info button on the remote you see a little power meter that shows how much electricity this LED TV is using over a standard set. Not sure how true this simple meter is though…but it is still cool.

A couple words of advice:

Although the Auto Motion Plus looks great on (gives the picture a Soap Opera feel to it making it look a little too real). I personally set mine for Clear (or off if you prefer) as it causes more picture quality problems for me than it is worth and plus I can’t get used to it. Maybe once I mount the set I will give it another try to see if I can get used.

Please note that the TV will never display 120 Hz in the TV info bar that appears on the top left corner. This displays the resolution that your TV is receiving from the set-top-box, DVD, etc and will always display 60 Hz rate and the resolution (720, 1080i, 1080p). This is not the Rate the set is processing/displaying. You can be assured that the set is outputting 120 Hz.

I connected a wired internet (CAT5e) cable to the set and downloaded all the widgets and upgrades needed. Youtube widget work perfectly and I wasted a good hour before I was done. (can watch these movies in small window or full screen (although a little pixilated)). I haven’t used Facebook or Netflix yet but will down the line as it is pretty easy and convenient.

I haven’t used the DLNA feature too much as I have dedicated Media player that connect to my NAS. However I did try it and instantly saw my NAS and PC (had to install Samsung PC Share Manager).

There is also an iPhone app for this series that let’s you control aspects of your TV (makes it easier to type words on the screen (youtube, facebook, etc). TV and iphone must be using the same router. Not the greatest thing but kind of cool.

The greatest thing is this TV has SO many settings can you can tweak it to your liking

I advise people when you get this TV to look online for settings and forums dealing with this set and optimal settings as without changing anything I might have returned it. Set is simply breathtaking.

Samsung UN55C8000 55-Inch 1080p 3D 240 Hz LED HDTV Got my UN55C8000 Last week Thursday, to replace my LN52A650. I have no Issues with my tv. The Black level are great, the motion handling is very good. I’ve watched 4 Blueray movies on it so far.Played some God of War 3. I’ve yet to see the lights in the corner/top like what some other’s have said. No clouding at all. The color is very good. Compared to my old LN52A650, This led tv is a stunner. The only compaints I have are 1 wifi not built in and 2 it’s not 480htz.

The best vehicle for 3D content Acquired the Samsung 55C8000 TV while on a trip to the States and brought back to Brazil with me (a 55″ by commercial flight!). My lab at the University of Sao Paulo has created stereoscopic 3D content for teaching and entertainment for many years. This Samsung UN55C8000 TV has proved to be the perfect medium to show our material to small audiences. The images are cristal clear and the definition is superb! Thanks Samsung and all the others manufactures (Panasonic and Sony so far) for bringing this futuristic machine to reality in my time. I highly recommend it. Just be patient and wait for all the wonderful content (entertainment and educational) that will be flooding the market very soon.

After a year of speculation, top TV manufacturers confirmed that 2010 will be the year of 3D television – with manufacturers like LG, Sony, Samsung and Toshiba announcing that 3D TV sets will be on sale in the UK by April. With Sky announcing that 3D broadcasting will be available by October, we strongly recommend that if you are planning on investing in a new HDTV set, go for a 3D one.

OLED is also set to be the next big thing in picture quality. The only problem is that manufacturers like LG can only make OLED TV as big as 15 inches; however we expect to see bigger sets over the next few years as the technology inevitably advances. OLED (which stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode) produces super crisp pictures with unbelievable quality and definition.

Toshiba Cell TVs

Besides using the same type of processor used in the PlayStation 3 and offering native 3D capability, Toshiba has packed its next generation of HDTVs with every feature we ever dreamed of. Toshiba also claims that, thanks to a new technology called TriVector Cell, TV series will be able to convert 2D content into 3D content in real time. No demo was available so we’ll have to hold off our judgement for now.

Samsung LED 9000 Series

The 900 series is the next gen of Samsung’s LED LCD TVs and the flagship model the Samsung C9000 is perhaps one of the slickest TV sets we’ve ever set eyes on. Just so you can comprehend the C900′s sleekness: the model is the same width as a number two pencil. The Samsung C900 is of course 3D, and is also capable of converting 2D content into 3D, again no demo was available.

LG 15-inch OLED TV

Despite its size, the LG 15-inch OLED TV is the biggest possible OLED TV to date, but give a few more years and we’ll see 26, 36, 47-inch OLED TV sets. OLED is the future of HDTV, this LG OLED produces super crisp picture with and absolutely stunning picture quality.

Sony 3D Bravia TV

As expected, Sony also caught the 3D flu that contaminated the world’s top television manufacturers and also introduced a new series of 3D TVs at this year’s CES. Sony will offer three separate lines of 3D Bravia HDTVs. The LX900 series, due out this summer, is available in size up to 60 inches and includes an edge-lit LED backlight system. Other features include 240Hz processing, integrated WiFi and two active shutter glasses for watching 3D content. It features what Sony calls a Monolithic industrial design with a smooth glass surface from edge to edge.

The consumer electronics giant also used the 3D wave to introduce its first 3D-capable Blu-ray player with WiFi connectivity and instant streaming of online content.

I purchased this Samsung 46 inch 8500 LED tv (Samsung 46 inch LED Best Buy) with expectations, only to find they were blown out of the water. I did not purchase the WiFi device, so I can’t comment on that. The picture is indescribable as it looks like the program is in the room instead of on a television. The motion settings took a little bit of time to get right, but man this set is by far top notch. I look forward to purchasing the 55″ version in the future to replace my SONY Bravia.
