I finally upgraded to the Nikon D5000 after growing increasingly frustrated with the shutter lag of point and shoot cameras when trying to get good shots of my kids–a baby and a toddler. I wish I had upgraded long ago. I’ve yet to figure out all the nuances of the professional modes (I am working on it–have only had the camera a week), but right out of the box, the automatic/scene modes took fantastic pictures–and the it is SO much faster than my old point and shoot cameras. If you’ll be taking pictures of kids, I recommend setting the camera to continuous shoot mode right off the bat. Definitely worth the investment to get great photos of the kids.
WOW! Right out of the box, I couldn’t wait to get started. I’ll admit there is a lot to learn but if you’re like me and read the instruction book last, the results were amazing! I got beautiful sharp images without any effort. I knew the quality was there by the Nikon name but this Nikon D5000 camera allows every level of expertise to use it’s capabilities at their current level with the option of growing your skills if desired. I thought I might be buying too much camera but don’t feel that way any longer. Nikon D5000 surely lives up to it’s name and reputation.
